A note to Participants:

The 2010 Memorial Day Weekend Operation Thank-A-Vet Event is an effort of like-minded Independent Fundamental Baptist people.  This in not an ecumenical undertaking or denominational Baptist effort.  Any member of an IFB church would be welcome to participate.  We need teen groups, families (children are GREAT!), adults, senior saints – EVERYONE can come and help.

In 2007, the Blessed Hope Baptist Church of Jasonville, Indiana sent 61 members to Washington D.C. for the first Operation Thank-A-Vet event ever held at our nation's capital.  In two days, we personally thanked over 16,000 veteran by shaking their hands, saying “thank you”, and presenting them with a gift booklet “Grace Will Lead Me Home”.  For everyone who attended, it was a life changing weekend.

Our goal in 2010 is to have 500 Christians participate for part or all of these two days and pass out over 100,000 gift booklets as appreciation gifts to our veterans.

We are scheduled to be on location (an exact map of the national mall and our assigned location will be posted when our permits are approved) from 9am to 5pm EST on both Saturday, May 29th and Monday, May 31st, 2010.  ANYONE can come for ALL or ANY PART of that time.  If you would like to plan a visit to our nation's capital for your family, youth group, or church, spend a couple hours participating in the OTAV event and then spend the rest of the day sight-seeing, that would be fine!
The national mall contains many war memorials including the Vietnam Wall, the Korean War Memorial, and the new W.W. II memorial.  It is a sacred area and should be treated so.  Our behavior needs to reflect this, in the kindness and compassion we show to each visitor.  This is not a place for open air preaching or high pressure soul winning tactics.  Many hearts will be open and tender, and a wise, Spirit filled soul winner will know when to just say thank you and present the booklet, or when someone might be open to a stronger gospel witness.  Youth groups and children should especially be well prepared and trained to show maturity, friendliness and genuine appreciation towards our veterans.
